 Tuesday 13th February 2018

THE ILLES MALGRATS VIEWPOINT IS NOW OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AFTER THE IMPROVEMENT WORKS THAT HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT IN BOTH THE VIEWPOINT TO THE MARINE RESERVE AND IN THE CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUND

The construction works of a senior citizen's centre in Son Ferrer are progressing

The Illes Malgrats viewpoint is now opened to the public, one of the improvement actions that the Town Hall has carried out in the municipality, in an enclave which, in addition to a tourist attraction because of the views to the Marine Reserve, is frequented by neighbours of the surroundings.

The mayor Alfonso Rodríguez Badal has visited the viewpoint this morning, accompanied by the councillor of the area, Mari Carmen Iglesias; and the works that are running in Son Ferrer, with the councillor of the area, Alfonso Molina, and the deputy mayor for Roads and Works, Juan Cuadros.

In Nova Santa Ponça, the viewpoint opposite the Illes Malgrats has been renovated and the playground has been reordered. The park-viewpoint presented a series of deficiencies such as bumps in the pavement, lack of lighting or insufficient scuppers for the collection of rainwater. Also, the wall and the railing that delimited the viewpoint were a risk since it was easily scalable by minors, and the playground was made of sand.

The improvement works consisted of leveling the floor by renewing the pavement with sandstone imitation tiling, and placing rubber in the children's playground. The wall and railing that existed have been demolished, replaced by an aluminum railing that allows a better observation of the Illes Malgrats from the viewpoint. In addition, drainage has been improved and the light points are being installed. Other improvements that have been carried out are the installation of 8 bicycle parking spaces, the replacement of stone and wood benches with new technological wood benches and the replacement of plastic bins with metal bins covered in wood. The cost of the works was 236,042.24 euros.

In the area of Son Ferrer, two of the most important works that are being carried out in the area have been visited.

Specifically, in Ocell del Paradís street, a new building is being built that will house the Senior Citizens' centre on the ground floor and municipal offices and a multi-functional room on the first floor. The work aims to respond to the lack of equipment that historically drags the urban area of Son Ferrer, in addition to provide the neighbours with a space for activities that will help to revitalise the area. The building, with a cost of 662,880.56 euros, is being raised next to the Basic Health Unit, in an area where multiple public facilities are concentrated.

Important improvements between Cigonya and Grua streets are being made to the children's playground that occupies a whole block. The park is provided with new games, separated by age zones, and with rubber floors. Lighting is improved by the installation of more efficient streetlights, benches are installed in playgrounds and trees are planted to shade playgrounds. Likewise, the perimetre of the park and playing areas is closed with wooden barriers and tables and chairs will be installed in the surroundings. The work was awarded for 134,784.66 euros.
