INFORMATIVE NOTE FROM THE LOCAL POLICE OF CALVIÀ

Man arrested for violently assaulting his partner in Santa Ponça

The Local Police of Calvià has arrested a 32-year-old British man for assaulting his sentimental partner, a 34-year-old British woman. The events took place yesterday at 6.15 p.m. in Santa Ponça, when two agents of the traffic division could see from the street a man hitting a woman. The Local Police agents of Calvià heard a loud noise of crystals coming from the second floor of an apartment block on Avenida Jaume I, where the couple was staying. From the street they could observe how the woman tried to leave the apartment to the terrace, and how the man grabbed her with force and prevented her from leaving. The woman could temporarily get rid of her attacker, but he shook her again and moved her to the railing. Then, the agents went up to the apartment, where the man they had seen attacking the woman opened the door for them. Upon entering the building, they noticed that the woman had blood in her mouth and marks of a collar on her neck, which they later found on the floor.

In the face of the violent attitude of the man, the Local Police of Calvià had to immobilise him with handcuffs, proceed to his arrest and inform him in English of his rights. The couple, who had been in a relationship for a year, were sharing an apartment in Santa Ponça during the Easter holidays. The man has been transferred to Son Espases hospital because of his state of exaltation so that he can be evaluated. Two local policemen and a 061 ambulance also went to the place of the events as reinforcements. The Local Police of Calvià reported the detention of the British citizen to his Consulate and transferred the proceedings to the Civil Guard to take charge of the case.
