780 kg of waste collected in Marina de Magaluf

780 KG OF WASTE COLLECTED IN A CLEANING DAY AT THE MARINA DE MAGALUF


The objective of the action has been to clean this area of special biological interest and raise public awareness on the protection of the environment regarding the waste problem



The Natural and Urban Environment service of Calvià Town Hall and Cruz Roja with the collaboration of the Regional Ministry of Environment, Agriculture and Fisheries, carried out last Friday a cleaning day at the Critical Biological Area (ABC) of the Marina de Magaluf in which 780 kilos of waste were collected. The municipal company Calvià 2000 has been in charge of removing and weighing the collected waste, of which:


-260 kg are general rubbish


-180 kg are containers


-300 kg are glass


-and 40 kg are bulky waste


The objective of this initiative is to clean this area of special biological interest and raise public awareness on the protection of the environment regarding the waste problem, also to make known this area of Magaluf, the endemic species that live in it and the efforts for its conservation.


The action is part of the European campaign "Let's Clean Up Europe 2018", a common action across the continent to raise awareness about the amount of waste that is uncontrollably thrown in nature and to promote its collection.


The twenty volunteers collected all kinds of waste. Amongst the participants, were the mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal; the regional minister of Environment, Agriculture and Fisheries, Vicenç Vidal; the deputy mayor for Urbanism, Commerce, Citizen Participation and Youth, Marcos Pecos; the councillor for Trade, Heritage and the Natural and Urban Environment, Francisca Muñoz; the manageress of Calvià 2000, Sonia Moragues; staff of the Natural and Urban Environment service of the Town Hall, and Red Cross volunteers.
