'ESTÍMA'LS' WORKSHOP. EDUCACIÓ PER AL BENESTAR DELS ANIMALS
253 pre-school and primary education pupils participate in this workshop given in Calvià by SOS Animal
253 pre-school and primary education pupils from the CEIP Galatzó, CEIP Ses Quarterades, CEIP Ses Rotes Velles and CEIP Son Caliu schools have attended the workshop "Estima'ls: educació per al benestar dels animals", given during the school year by the SOS Animal entity with the aim of raising awareness on the treatment and care that animals should receive in the human environment, in addition to encouraging adoption.
Amongst the activities that are carried out with the association's volunteers, are: the viewing of photographs of animals interacting with people, the exhibition of the work of guide and rescue dogs, and therapy activities carried out with animals, in order to promote respect for them and know the tasks that they develop in our environment and that are beneficial for the human being.
On the other hand, the volunteers inform on the operation of feral colonies and the SOS Animal centre in Calvià, as well as the volunteers actions in the refuge, such as the cleaning of the enclosure and the animals or walks with them.
The most important point of the workshop is the promotion of adoptions so that abandoned animals receive an opportunity to live in society in an appropriate manner.
One of Calvià Town Hall's purposes, as set out in the Municipal Ordinance approved in 2017, is to achieve the highest level of protection and welfare of animals, guarantee responsible ownership and reduce abandonment, repeated loss, uncontrolled procreation, minimising the risks for environmental health and preserving the tranquility, health and safety of people, goods and animals.
In this line of animal protection, actions such as these contribute to the objective of increasing sensitivity and respect towards animals, establishing the foundations for an education in the municipality that promotes the right behaviour of a modern society, establishing general guidelines of behaviour that favour a responsible ownership on the part of the animals owners, tending to reduce the annoyances that could be caused to the rest of people who live, work or visit our municipality.
