Tuesday 3rd March 2020

GALATZÓ ESTATE MILLS RESTORATION WORKS VISIT

Both, Mallorca Council and Calvià Town Hall are restoring the Galatzó estate's water-powered flour mills, which will contribute to the preservation of these constructions, dated from the conquest of Mallorca and that used water as a driving force and were generally aimed at grinding cereals to obtain flour. The restoration is part of the Mallorca Industrial Historic Heritage Restoration Programme, convened by the Council which is responsible for the drafting of the project and the workforce, while the Town Hall is responsible for the materials, transport and other associated expenses.

The vice president of the Mallorca Council and Minister of Culture and Heritage, Bel Busquets, and the insular director of Heritage, Kika Coll, have visited the restoration works accompanied by the deputy mayor and the councilwoman for Environment and Ecological Transition, Rafel Sedano and Marga Plomer, and the councilwoman for Heritage, Francisca Muñoz.

At the estate, in addition, other restoration works are being carried out such as the gutter and the cistern and the water channels network that will allow the entire hydraulic system of the farm to be put again into operation. The Galatzó estate has one of the most complex hydraulic systems in Mallorca with sa Font des Ratxo, the two mills and the more than 500 metres of piping.
