217.040 euros for the start of the school year

Friday 20th August 2021

CALVIÀ TOWN HALL HAS ALREADY GRANTED 1.336 AIDS FOR THE START OF THE SCHOOL YEAR FOR A TOTAL OF 217.040 EUROS

In two consecutive years, the Town Hall has doubled the amount aimed at supporting families for the expenses they have to face at the beginning of the school year

More than 1.000 students from Calvià have already received the aids for the beginning of the school year aimed at students enrolled in public centres in second cycle of Pre-education, Primary, Compulsory Secondary or Baccalaureate. This is an aid granted by the Social Development Area and which was launched in 2017 which is intended to subsidise part of the expenses that families -with students enrolled in public centres- have at the beginning of the school year, such as the purchase of textbooks, digital textbooks, curricular material, computer infrastructure for study, etc.

Altogether, 1.336 grants have already been given for a total of 217.040 euros, which means multiplying by three, one more year, the grants awarded and the number of students who receive them.

In anticipation that the situation of vulnerability of many families would continue for the second consecutive year, this year the initial budget increased by 97%, going from 126.910 euros budgeted in 2020, to the 250.000 euros budgeted in 2021, with the commitment to increase the item if necessary. It must be taken into account that in 2020 the initially budgeted item already had to be increased to reach 257.920 euros to respond to the significant increase in requests received due to the effects of the pandemic.

Year 2021: 1.336 grants, for 217.040 euros.
Year 2020: 1.456 grants, for 257.920 euros.
Year 2019: 374 grants, for 66.665 euros.

In order to facilitate procedures to families, these have been simplified, with the submmission of a responsible declaration, or, even, awarding the subsidy ex officio to those families of which data were already available in the Social Services Department.

The amounts of the aid range from 110 euros per student in Early Childhood Education and lower primary courses, to 225 euros for students in upper Secondary and Baccalaureate courses.

The IMEB, Municipal Institute of Education and Libraries, is processing, for its part, the aid for the Vocational Training cycles.
