• The race will take place on Saturday 16th October

Challenge Peguera Mallorca triathlon holds its 7th edition next Saturday 16th October, and it does so with a historic poster of professional triathletes that ensures an epic battle for victory.

In the men's category, Danish Magnus Elbæk Ditlev and the German Frederic Funk start as favourites according to their current positions in the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) ranking, both occupying the TOP 20. Amongst the latest results of Magnus Ditlev outstands his 2nd position in The Championship, on 29th August. On the other hand, German Frederik Funk faces the Calvià race after winning this year in Challenge St. Pölten and in the European Triathlon Challenge Kaiserwinkl-Walchsee championship.

In addition, other triathlon stars will join, such as New Zealander Kyle Smith, winner of CHALLENGE WANAKA 2021, Swiss Ruedi Wild, also third in this competition in 2019; British Thomas Davis or the American Collin Cartier.

Outstand as local athletes in the professional category Joan Nadal, Xesc Artigues and Guillem Soler.

COMPLETE PRO MEN'S LIST

In the women's category, Swiss Nicola Spirig starts as one of the favourites. Spirig was proclaimed last June European half-distance triathlon champion in Challenge Kaiserwinkl-Walchsee and she has also won in Challenge Davos and in Challenge Gran Canaria. French Manon Genet, world long-distance championship runner-up a few weeks ago at Challenge Almere-Amsterdam, and British Lucy Hall, winner of The Championship in June, are presented to challenge her triumph.

British Jodie Stimpson, winner of this year's Challenge Miami; Dutch Leanne Fanoy, 5th in the world long-distance championship in Challenge Almere-Amsterdam, or Italian Marta Bernardi, 3rd classified in the European half-distance Triathlon Championship in Challenge Kaiserwinkl-Walchsee, are also favourites to host the Championship.

Awarded by its participants

Challenge Peguera Mallorca stands out for combining the essence of Calvià and the island of Mallorca along its route, which combines beaches with crystal clear waters, a bike section through traditional villages and rural landscapes and a final running race along the Peguera seafront in the heat of the public. It combines fast stages with other more technical and challenging ones that are attractive to the participants.

In fact and in its last edition, the Calvià competition was awarded as the best triathlon race in the Challenge Family Awards 2019, a recognition granted directly by the athletes who disputed the different international Challenge Family races.

A suitable place for the last race

Challenge Peguera-Mallorca represents the last opportunity for professional athletes to score points in the Challenge Family ranking (and opt for important monetary prizes amongst the first classified), since it is the last competition to take place on European territory.

This condition, together with the privileged geographical, climatic and equipment conditions that the municipality has, make this race an opportunity for athletes to conclude the triathlon season and take a break in a place of great tourist attraction. In this sense, it should be noted that Calvià has more than 300 days of sunshine a year, sea and mountain landscapes to practice all kinds of sports throughout the year and is located very close to Mallorca's international airport.

A community project

Challenge Peguera Mallorca is an example of institutional collaboration and private initiative. Organised by Fundación Calvià 2004 and Calvià Town Hall in collaboration with the Spanish Triathlon Federation, the event also has the support of the Balearic Islands Tourism Strategy Agency (AETIB) and the Mallorca Turisme Foundation (Consell de Mallorca). Other entities such as the Paguera and Cala Fornells Hotel Association, Challenge Family and brands such as Powerbar, Red Bull or Abus, amongst others that collaborate in the management of the event, also participate.
