The regulations against tourism of excesses promoted by the Government of the Balearic Islands has facilitated the precautionary closure of eight establishments on the island of Mallorca this tourist season and has allowed the issuing of up to 90 infringement reports. This has been revealed by the regional minister for Economic Model, Tourism and Labour, Iago Negueruela, after a 'Commission for the Promotion of Citizenship in tourist areas' meeting that had the objective of analysing the actions that the different institutions that make up the commission have carried out to control and stop uncivil behaviour.

After the meeting, Negueruela praised the commitment shown by all the public administrations and revealed that this meeting took place just a few weeks after the season started, to test its evolution and "maintain coordination with a common goal". "The regulation has a strong effectiveness, as well as special impact tools, such as precautionary closures, which allow us to stop these behaviours and act with the maximum forcefulness, we will do everything necessary", added the regional minister.

In this line, Negueruela has abounded in the need to continue with this destination transformation process, while he has shown his satisfaction with these 'tourism of excesses regulation enforcement' results. “It is the first time that premises have been closed in the Balearic Islands due to this issue and we will continue to do everything in our power to ensure that the regulations are complied with,” he added.

During his speech to the media after the meeting, Negueruela thanked "the effort and coordination of all the public administrations" and highlighted the involvement of the Government Delegation this summer, in which "the State security forces and corps officers displaced to our islands June included”, a circumstance that has allowed greater control of this type of activities.

Both, the 90 infringement reports issued in these season months and the 8 establishments closure proposals have taken place entirely on the Island of Mallorca and are distributed as follows by administrations:

Majorca Council
A total of 48 infringement reports issued, of which 32 correspond to hotel establishments, 10 for Commerce jurisdiction infringements, 5 for Consumption jurisdiction infringements, and a final report issued for Tourism jurisdiction infringement (party boat).

Palma Council
Palma Council has issued a total of 5 infringement reports, plus another four pending introduction into the system, which would bring the total to 9. In addition, the closure of four establishments has been proposed, one of them for selling alcoholic beverages to minors and the rest (3) for selling alcohol outside the permitted hours.

Calvià Town Hall
In total, 27 infringement reports have been issued for advertising alcoholic beverages (5), degrading women (4), non-compliance with schedules (6), party boats (7), display of alcoholic beverages (3), inducement to alcohol consumption (1) and balconing (1).

Calvià, which has delegated powers since 1st July 2022, has precautionarily closed 4 establishments for failing to comply with the regulations on excesses, 2 for degrading women and the other 2 for non-compliance with closing hours in relation to the sale of alcoholic drinks.

The mayor, Alfonso Rodríguez, highlighted at the end of the meeting that “for Calvià it was important to have supra-municipal regulations to continue fighting against excesses, beyond municipal ordinances. It is very important that the four premises closed in a precautionary manner understand the importance of the closures and that everyone understands that the decree seeks to eradicate the excesses against which we will be forceful.

Health and Consumption
From the regional government's general directorates of Consumption and Health, a total of 6 infringement reports have been issued during this time, three by each general directorate.

In addition to the regional minister Negueruela, the meeting was attended by the general director of Tourism, Rosana Morillo, the Mallorca island minister of Tourism, Andreu Serra, the Ibiza island director of Tourism, Juan Miguel Costa, the mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez, the councillor for Citizen Security of Palma council, Joana Adrover, the first deputy mayor of Llucmajor, Noemí Getino, the councillor for Government and Environment of Sant Antoni, Neus Mateu, the general director of Consumption, Félix Alonso, the general director of Public Health, Maria Antònia Font, and Ramón Morey on behalf of the Government Delegation.
