THE CALVIÀ 2023 BIENNIAL ARRIVES WITH A RECORD PARTICIPATION OF URBAN ART PROPOSALS WHICH IN THIS EDITION WILL BE LOCATED IN SON FERRER AND EL TORO

This year, more than 60 applications with 83 different projects have been submitted to the call

Between 14th and 28th March, the five new intervention proposals for this year's edition of BetArt will be carried out, which have been selected to expand the open-air museum of Calvià, and which will be carried out in Son Ferrer and El Toro. This year there has been a record of participation, with more than 60 applications and 83 different projects.

The artists or groups of artists selected to carry out the BetArt 2023 interventions are: Anastasia Bellous with the project «Escuela», Alex Gambin with «Imaginario colectivo», Dani Hache with his proposal «Limones», Elena González with her proposal «Better together» and Rona Glantz with «Desenre2».

In all cases they have chosen mural painting to carry out their proposal in buildings such as the CREC, the IFOC Cultural Centre, El Toro municipal pavilion and swimming pool, the Son Ferrer Neighbourhood Association or Plaza Europa.

One of the main objectives of the call since its start has been to bring artistic interventions into dialogue with the space in which they are carried out and the activities that take place around the works.

Continuing in this direction, the seventh edition of BetArt Calvià continues to value the coexistence of contemporary art and the actions carried out in the urban environment, taking into account that the public of this event is the ultimate recipient and interpreter of the works that are going to occupy some of the most characteristic buildings of the municipality.

In addition to the murals that residents and visitors will be able to enjoy with this call, the fact of promoting creative processes where artists of different origins and disciplines coexist makes the experience enriching for the cultural activity of Calvià. Blurring the limits between public space and the enjoyment and perception of the artistic proposals in an individual way, the interventions are shaped as a transversal proposal for the cultural scene of Calvià.

The BetArt Calvià 2023 jury has faced an arduous selection task given the numerous proposals -more than double last year- their variety of disciplines and their local, national and international origin.

The BetArt Calvià project began in 2012 with the aim of promoting artistic creation and experimentation in Calvià. It is a call with more and more followers that is currently seen as a new form of interaction between art and urban spaces, which places artistic interventions at street level that encourage activity in public spaces and promote art in a freely and free of charge way. In addition, it creates connections between artists and public and private entities, which make artistic talent visible and achieve the embellishment of public spaces.
