The president of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Francina Armengol; the mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the regional minister for Education and Training, Martí March, have inaugurated this morning the facilities of the new Adult Education Centre (CEPA) in Calvià, which replaces the old municipal facilities of camí de Sa Porrassa, and that welcome about 800 people.

The event was attended by the deputy mayor for Education and Training, Olga Granados; the manager of the Municipal Institute of Education and Libraries (IMEB), Borja Martorell, and other municipal authorities, as well as the general director of Vocational Training, Antoni Baos; the general director of Planning, Organization and Centres, Antoni Morante; and the director of CEPA Calvià, Francisca Muñoz. Representatives of the teaching staff and students of the centre have also participated, as well as directors of the adult education centres in Mallorca and the management teams of the educational centres in the municipality. At the end of the act, a snack was offered by the IES Calvià catering students.

During the inauguration, the president of the Govern has assured that, "without a society capable of claiming and without an Administration capable of listening and executing, things do not progress."

The president has defined education as "the only social elevator we have, so that we all have the same opportunities wherever one is born" and she has defended training throughout life to "be able to live more freely".

The mayor of Calvià stated that "we are enormously satisfied today because a town that sustains its future in the education of its citizens is a municipality with strong foundations". Alfonso Rodríguez Badal thanked the joint work carried out between the Regional Government and the Town Hall, to give a dignified response to the people who are being trained because, he added, "we believe in the comprehensive training of people, because training and knowledge sets us free.

On the other hand, the regional minister of Education has celebrated that, despite all the difficulties, we have achieved success and a fantastic building for training”, in addition to doing so from “institutional collaboration”. Martí March has claimed the "excitement generated by this centre" for the entire municipality of Calvià and has appealed for "making education and training a basic element of social cohesion and, ultimately, happiness".

The centre is built on a 5,194 m2 municipal plot located at the confluence of Galió and Góngora streets in the urban centre of Magaluf and consists of two floors (ground floor and first floor).

The new building has 2,166 m2 built, with ten multi-purpose classrooms, workshop rooms, a library, offices, departments, a teacher's room and a multi-purpose space.

New adult education centre
The CEPA Calvià is an adult education centre created thanks to an agreement between the regional ministry of Education and Calvià Town Hall. It has a wide range of training, from literacy groups to training cycles, through preparation groups for university entrance exams, language courses, etc.

The geographical scope of CEPA Calvià is also very wide: it includes the entire Andratx area (s'Arracó, Andratx, Puerto de Andratx) and the Calvià area (El Toro, Magaluf, Portals Nous, Santa Ponça, Palmanova, etc). It currently has more than 800 students, half of whom are enrolled in regulated studies.

The new CEPA replaces the old municipal building of Sa Porrassa, which has space problems and cannot respond to current needs.
