From today, and throughout March and April, the Spring for Memory takes place, a series of activities that, for the second consecutive year, are organised by the Department of Democratic Memory of the Town Hall, together with the Obra Cultural de Calvià and the Memòria de Calvià collective.

The councillor for Democratic Memory, Rafel Sedano, explains that this joint initiative will focus this year on remembering different events related to the memory of the municipality, beyond aspects related to the memory of all those people retaliated against or killed during or after the civil war. This year, Sedano has pointed out, "we have also wanted to stop at other events taking advantage of 40th anniversary of the Statute of Autonomy, or the commemoration of the 500 years of the Germanías, as well as organising different activities focused on women coinciding with the month of March" .

The first appointment is today, 3rd March, with a commemorative act of 40th anniversary of the Statute of Autonomy of the Balearic Islands. At 7 pm, in Sa Societat, the book “Mallorquinismes: una història oral” by Miquel Vidal Bosch and José María Gago González is presented.

On Sunday, the 5th, the Coanegra group will offer the concert of the Germanies «500 anys no han apagat la flama: Germania!». It will be at 6 pm, in Sa Societat.

The rest of the activities, which will take place at Sa Societat, will be carried out in March and April:

On 18th March, the documentary "Totes les causes. L'assassinat d'una dona desconeguda", produced by Quindrop, and which tells the story of Pilar Sánchez who was a victim of Franco's repression, will be screened.

On 31st March, the comic «Aurora Picornell. Les bales no podran matar les idees», by Nina Parrón, with illustrations by Beatriz Colom, based on the book by David Ginard “Aurora Picornell”, will be presented.

Already in April, on 12th, the documentary "Mirall de Terra", directed by Cristina Monge, and which is the first documentary on the Collidores d'oliva de Mallorca, who were also so present in the municipality of Calvià, will be viewed.

The second edition of Spring for Memory  will conclude with the act that annually commemorates the anniversary of the Republic, at the Bosque de la Memoria de Calvià. It will be on 15th April at 6 p.m.
