CALVIÀ WILL DELIVER IN AUTUMN THE 99 OFFICIAL PROTECTION HOUSES THAT ARE BEING CARRIED OUT IN SANTA PONÇA

This development is part of the 123 OPH fully financed by Calvià Town Hall, of which 24 in Magaluf were delivered on 27th February

This morning, a visit was made to the works of the 99 subsidised homes being carried out by Calvià Town Hall with one hundred percent municipal investment. This is the second development of municipal OPH, after the 24 in Magaluf that were delivered on 27th February, along with the 24 carried out by Ibavi.

The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, has indicated that the construction of OPH confirms the commitment that the Town Hall makes for public housing.

"Aware of the problem of access to housing, he said, it is necessary to assist from the administrations." The mayor added that in Calvià "all the resources that we have within our reach" are used, taking advantage of all the land for residential growth that the current General Land-use Planning allows, and exhausting all the possibilities of land growth for residential use that the revision of the PGOU will allow.

The event was also attended by the deputy mayor Nati Francés, head of the Housing Department; and the Town Hall's general director of Housing, Eduard Vila, as well as the deputy mayor Marga Plomer, and councillor Rafel Sedano.

The 99 Official Protection Housing of Santa Ponça

The 99 OPH that are being built on 11 Unamuno St., in Santa Ponça have been fully financed by Calvià Town Hall with an investment of 14.328.218,68 euros.

The municipal development consists of 5 buildings arranged in such a way that it allows the location of two collective spaces for children's games, as well as the landscaping of one sixth of the free surface of the plot to favour the use of a free space by the neighbourhood. It also includes 99 surface parking spaces, of which 7 are accessible spaces for people with reduced mobility, and 25% with charging points for electric cars.

Of the 99 homes, 50 will be for rent, 39 for sale and 10 for rent with purchase option. Most of the apartments have two bedrooms, specifically 60, while there will be 30 with 3 bedrooms, 5 with one bedroom and 4 with four bedrooms. Of these, 7 homes are adapted, all on the ground floor and distributed amongst the 5 buildings.

The project respects all accessibility, environmental and energy efficiency measures, with the installation of photovoltaic panels on the buildings roof, for self-consumption; and has taken into account the gender perspective as well as adaptation after the experience lived during the pandemic, with very bright, ventilated apartments and with a terrace, making savings of up to 70% of a normal electricity bill.

Housing policies in Calvià

Calvià is the only municipality in the Balearic Islands that, in addition to ceding municipal land to Ibavi, builds public housing with municipal funds. In total, in this legislature, Calvià Town Hall will have invested 17 million euros in OPH.

In addition to the 123 homes with one hundred percent municipal investment, and the 24 Ibavi's OPH in Magaluf, the Govern has already awarded the construction of 39 privately managed OPH that will be carried out on the plot next to cabo Juan García St. in Magaluf. In addition, the Town Hall has ceded a plot of land in Peguera to Ibavi, for the development of another 24 subsidised homes, and has already given the license for the construction of 87 privately-developed homes in the Magaluf Marina area, of which 75 will be OPH and 12 will be at an appraised price.

The policies to facilitate access to housing are completed in Calvià with the Rental Grants that the Town Hall has awarded since 2017, and which have been conceived as a right in the municipality, in such a way that all those applications that meet the requirements obtain aid, although the initial budget item must be increased.

In this legislature, in addition to ordinary annual aid, in 2020 and 2021 extraordinary aid was called as exceptional support for families in the municipality with problems to pay the rent due to causes arised by Covid-19. In total, from 2019 to 2022, ordinary and extraordinary aid amounted to a total of 2.7 million euros.

In addition to these initiatives launched to facilitate access to housing, the Town Hall has called this year, for the first time, new aid for the installation of lifts in buildings in the municipal area.

The idea for these subsidies launched in Calvià arised after detecting that residential buildings, especially those of 2 or 3 storeys, lacking an elevator, pose a mobility problem for the elderly. To respond to this situation, an item of one million euros has been set up to subsidise up to 40 percent of the budget for the first lift installation works. This is a pioneering municipal initiative in the Balearic Islands.
