Monday, 6th November 2023

The new concession of Calvià beaches' services foresees the opening during more months a year to lengthen the tourist season and reduce the seasonality curve. The measure will apply to the busiest beaches in the municipality, which will remain open and equipped with services from March to the end of November. The concession is pending the corresponding legal study and the bidding documents are expected to be published before the end of the year. This measure is part of the Calvià 365 strategic plan that is promoted by the municipal executive.

From London, where he is participating in the World Travel Market, the mayor of the municipality, Juan Antonio Amengual, has announced that the new concession means that the chosen beaches "will have lifeguards and cleaning services, perhaps not with all the sunbeds and beach umbrellas, but available to the public. We have 300 days of sun and good weather and it makes no sense to keep the beaches closed. "Those beaches can become our parks so that residents and tourists can enjoy them."

The mayor has insisted that "the months necessary for the regeneration of the sea grass (posidonia) and the environmental care of the beaches will be maintained."
