THE CALVIÀ MUSIC BAND PAYS TRIBUTE TO DON QUIXOTE AT SANTA CECILIA'S CONCERT
The classic event of the Calvià musical offer this year will perform a work by the prestigious Valencian composer Ferrer Ferrán
On Sunday, 19th November, the Calvià Municipal Music Band honours the patron saint of music, Santa Cecilia, at Sa Societat theatre. The concert will be directed by Josep Oliver and will feature, amongst others, the musician Costin Anastasescu who will perform the Symphonic Fantasy "El Quijote" on clarinet along with the Calvià Music Band and Sergio Vázquez, who will narrate some of the paragraphs of the novel. The celebration of Music Day, coinciding with Santa Cecilia's Day, has a special meaning by combining cultural tradition, and in this case literary, with the passion for sound art.
The prestigious Valencian composer Ferrer Ferrán, one of the best in Europe, is the author of the Symphonic Fantasy "El Quijote", composed to commemorate the IV Centenary of the creation of this work.
It is a score that can be performed with a narrator, which gives life to the stories of Cervantes' work.
With the celebration of Santa Cecilia's concert, a classic already on the cultural agenda of the municipality of Calvià, the fundamental importance of music in Calvià society and the essential role of sound art as an enriching element is recognised.
This annual event is a reminder of how music, as a universal language, connects people.
