GARAU INGENIEROS AND CALVIÀ 2000 COLLABORATE FOR THE DETECTION OF INCIDENTS IN TREATMENT PLANTS THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHY AND THERMOGRAPHY

- Both companies sign a collaboration agreement, through which Garau Ingenieros performs the testing phase in the wastewater treatment plant of Santa Ponça.

-The innovation project, which has funding from FEDER funds of the European Union, will allow to minimise the response time in case of problems.

Calvià 2000 and Garau Ingenieros have signed a collaboration agreement, whereby the public sanitation company allows to the engineering company the use of its facilities, as well as analytical information, to carry out the innovation project consisting of the detection of incidents in sewage treatment plants through photography and thermography. This research initiative has FEDER funds from the European Union.

The objective of the project is to develop a support system for operators working in sewage treatment plants, so that any incident in the purification process is communicated in time, such as the presence of spills or the malfunctioning of the treatment plant's elements.

This system is based on the use of image sensors to capture, with a thermal camera, images of the wastewater from a different spectrum. Once the water quality parametres and its relation with the visual and infrared radiation image are analised, problems can be detected -such as, for instance, the presence of foams in the water- that will be communicated through an alert system.

The final goal of the project is to have a computer tool that allows to anticipate any variation in the purification processes and act preventively to optimise the purification system and ensure the best quality of the effluent. According to Garau, the result can be understood as an improvement and cheapening of the current control and monitoring systems.
